and on the reverse, the iconic rose with the name of the  country.

Fish Pendant
A  souvenir from China, this exquisite little fish is machine embroidered with hand-knotted attachments above and below its body. It embodies much that is associated with China, including the use of red, a symbolically significant colour to Chinese people, and an often unacknowledged sense of humour and whimsy. The little fish has possibly escaped the hook hanging below it.

Soft sculpture head and torso is supported by a straw base. She wears a red head scarf and her dress bears the names of many of the islands in the Caribbean. Her apron is embroidered with “Antigua” so perhaps that is where she was purchased. Eyes and mouth are painted. Artifact is culturally loaded with colonial implications. Images printed on the dress fabric show mountain and sea, fish,
coffee berries, and a cockfight. Some machine sewing and pinking of edges.

Just four inches tall but loaded with charm, this clay figure is carrying a heavy pack on his shoulder. His clothing and features are painted in fine detail. He grimaces under the weight of his burden while his little pot belly strains his garment.
